I want to be alone. I can't be alone. I'm afraid of being alone. Leave me alone. In a Platonic dialogue interrupted by movement, music, and memory, award-winning Swiss opera director Julie Beauvais and American director/performer Jon Foley Sherman explore the limits and possibilities of solitude. This Is Not For You explores the ethics and aesthetics of solitude in a unique form of performance lecture that asks whether it is ever possible to be alone.
This show marks Jon and Julie's return to collaboration after a 10 year hiatus. The project began from their individual experiences of parenting and partnerhood, crystallizing into a debate over the possibility of solitude and the responsibilities it required or denied. The two friends and colleagues of 15 years will engage in a passionate, humorous, finely observed debate on what it means to share and withhold yourself from others.
