DysFUNctional Theater was founded in 2001 by Ruchama Bilenky (bass player for the band Sylvia Platypus) with the mission of bringing obscure, female-oriented works to the Philadelphia stage. Past productions have included Fefu and Her Friends by Maria Irene Fornes, The White Whore and the Bit Players by Tom Eyen, Alchemy of Desire/Dead Mans Blues by Caridad Svich, Sam Shepard & Patti Smith’s CowboyMouth, and Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act by Athol Fugard. DysFUNctional Theater celebrated its 10th anniversary with Le Mirage/Dead City Philly which is a world premier and the company's first presentation of an original work.
