The Alternative Theater Festival is an exploration of performance featuring student written and directed pieces. The shows give young playwrights a chance to showcase their emerging talents. The five shows featured this year are: "Sessions," a piece about a young woman who is struggling to find herself, and turns a therapist in hopes of assistance. "Breaking News" deals with the use of news media as well as social networking in reporting events. "In Many Ways" is about a young woman coping with her infertility. "Artificial Intelligence" explores a man's life and how he uses low-grade technology as an unexpected companion to combat his loneliness. Finally, "Ur-play" looks at unrequited, forbidden love in an unconventionally narrated way. These shows cover a full spectrum of emotions and resonate with everyone, young or old.
About our company:
iNtuitons Experimental Theatre is the University of Pennsylvania's only student-run experimental theatre group. Founded in 1980, iNtuitons' comes from two words: intuition and automaton. It was chartered to "attract people with diverse artistic interests and in order to provide an outlet for creative people whose ideas are too Classical or Avant-Garde to be supported by existing groups."
