A little poetry. Some Nina Simone and bell hooks. A whole lot of performance. The Woman in Me is a one-woman show that explores and interrogates the stories and histories, the people and pain, the hauntings and ghosts that reside in the body and the words of one black woman.

The Women in Me is a one-woman show written and performed by Charly Evon Simpson and directed by Rachel Rhoades. The beginning of this show started when Charly started to think about the stories that follow and are immersed in her identity as a black writer and performer. What stories, histories are revived when a black female body is on stage? What stories, histories are revived in the body and words of a particular black body? The Women in Me starts to answer those questions and to tell those stories. Some of the stories are universal, others are individual. All begin to ask: What does a body hold? The Women in Me is a work in progress, not officially finished, always in the making, as time and stories accumulate.
