Secrecy is a means of survival in oppressive times. But every mask of conformity hides a tender heart, a wild mind, an untamed curiosity.  Enter The Secret Order of the Libertines, the antidote for everything unsexy about our current political, moral climate.

Set in a post-war bordello atmosphere, art and intimacy merge to create a uniquely sensual experience.  Poetry Whores greet you, seat you, and collect tokens in exchange for private readings at your table, in dusky corners – or up against the wall. The line between literature and liaison blurs. Let it.

Then, featured performers turn the stage into an erogenous zone. Stories of sensual adventures.  Confessions of love and lust.  Beats and moves that stir libido, passion, and soul. In the face of such free expression, inhibitions melt. A new brand of eroticism emerges.

Bordello guests are masked upon entrance (bring your own or wear one of ours). With identities obscured, you become both voyeur and participant. Your own internal moral compass guides you through the night. Only you can decide what to reveal, when…and how much. Under the cloak of the Secret Order, freedom is finally possible.

The Secret Order is comprised of:

The Essensual Experience, an incubator workshop run by The Sensual Life, where raw, authentic sensual expression is captured on the page and prepared for the stage. Philadelphia-based performance artist Monica Day (2011 Fringe debut, Song of the Sacred Whore) plus select workshop graduates will share tenderly-crafted, sensually-explicit revelations with a level of vulnerability and honesty rarely seen in public erotic performance.

The Femme-Mynistiques, a powerful trio that unites a siren vocalist (Alexa Gold), a lyrical poetess (Plum Dragoness), and a flowin' MC (Lady Omni MC).  Known for original beats and lyrics that flow from street to spirit and back again with ease, grace, and deep soul.

The Poetry Brothel™ emerged on the New York performance arts scene with the aim of restoring urgency and revelry to the act of reading. Patrons interact directly with artists, while The Madame ensures a good time for all.  In this fantasy environment, a certain truth emerges: reading should be pleasurable and art should be compensated.  With branches in Barcelona, Los Angeles, and Chicago, this is the Philadelphia debut of The Poetry Brothel.

The house offers a limited, donation-only bar, and sells tokens for Whores and literary sundries. One private reading included with ticket.
