“It really came from glimpses of the past, memories of a time before I was aware of myself.” Brian Sanders, choreographer of Hush Now Sweet High Heels and Oak

"A glorious artistry that captivates your senses." Deni Kasrel, Philadelphia City Paper

///////

Creator of many of the Festival's most popular shows, Brian Sanders premieres his newest dance sensation involving high heels, nursery rhymes, and a black portal of memory at the 23rd Street Armory. An enormous dead oak tree stands next to a white sand dune and an adult’s bedroom, all game for the mystical playfulness of the dancers. Expect raw physical daring, striking imagery, and a "sweet" in-your-face attitude.

///////

Past Festival shows include: The Gate Reopened (2012); Sanctuary (2010); Urban Scuba (2009).

//////

Since the start of his company JUNK (formerly known as Archetype Dance Company) in 1992, Brian Sanders has become a fixture in the Philadelphia performing arts community, hailed by Philadelphia Weekly as “the city’s most exciting choreographer” for his strikingly engaging found object oriented aesthetic. He has exhibited his work on a range of platforms including two nationally televised choreographed mini-series appearing in Italy, a dance performed at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torin, and more than thirty works and three evening length performances during a ten-year position as a worldwide touring choreographer in Moses Pendleton’s famed company MOMIX. Sanders currently serves as a member of the modern dance faculty at his alma mater The University of the Arts Philadelphia, and choreographs new works for the bi-annual concerts at the Merriam Theater.
